Analytics for Steering Committees - Managing Digital Transformation beyond Powerpoint
While advanced analytics are increasingly used in many fields of management to support not only tactical, but also strategic decision making, steering committee work in transformation programmes is still mainly informed by classical reporting. The absence of transformation analytics is even more surprising as large amounts of quality data are avalable in project management tools – a kind of „digital twin“ of the transformation. We present findings from analyzing problematic transformation programmes, insights how transformation steering analytics are used by pionieering companies, a typology of use cases we derived from those early cases, and discuss promising avenues to improve steering digital transformation.
Transformation Takes a Village: The Power of Interdisciplinary Collaboration
It takes a village to succeed with transformation. Transformation is a collective effort requiring diverse perspectives and collaboration across functions and disciplines. Often though, we approach this monumental endeavor through the narrow scope of our individual roles or perspectives, inadvertently overlooking the holistic view essential for success.
Successful transformation demands that everyone has a unified understanding of where the organization is today, where it is going in the future, and how it will get there – and how their role uniquely contributes to the outcomes. Successful digital transformation requires interdisciplinary collaboration, which leads to insights and outcomes that are greater than the sum of the parts.
In this session, we will explore the value of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to transformation, what it looks like, and how business architecture serves as a critical enabler. Finally, we will discuss practical steps that can be taken to move these insights into action.
AI in Software Development: Innovation vs. Resistance
The integration of AI into software development promises increased efficiency, greater automation, and ongoing innovation. This transformative technology has the potential to fundamentally revolutionize the way we approach coding, software creation, and maintenance. But how do development teams respond to this change in practice? In this session, we share insights from our recent pilot, exploring its impact on coding, collaboration, and productivity. But technical results are only half the story — I also address a key challenge: overcoming skepticism and resistance among developers.
Strategy and IT Leadership
What does IT strategy mean, how can IT best position itself, and what does this have to do with leadership? What does leadership mean in today’s hybrid working models and large projects, especially in relation to strategy and how it contributes to strategy?
The Power of Internal Digital Consulting: Driving Business Value from Within
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, business units need targeted support in finding the best digital solutions while focusing on their core strengths. This presentation delves into the journey of building an exemplary internal digital consulting team supporting the business units in finding the right digital solutions to grow business success. We will explore the strategic steps taken to establish a team that consults the business at every stage of digital project development, from business challenge to successful Go Live. Join us to listen to the progression from a handful of implementation consultants to over 45 experts specializing in enterprise architecture, process transformation, solution design and implementation and data and integration solutions.
How enterprise architecture supports sustainability in IT?

About the Courage to Become an “Open Champion” - and The Efforts to Leave the World of “Hidden Champions” Behind
The German Mittelstand is famous for its engineering skills, inventiveness, and social responsibility.
Being called a “hidden champion” was a high honor – but is it one that will help us in a volatile economy, high cost and innovation pressure and lack of resources? At Marantec, we are certain: no! The future belongs to the “Open Champions”.
Those who focus on the needs of the customer. Who focus on co-creation. Who invest in the potential of their employees and realize, that change starts at the top. Who know that transformation is only effective, if the goal is described in concrete terms and implemented in a comprehensible and consistent manner.
This presentation will show that this is anything but easy and how to overcome the pitfalls.
Implementing AI in Organizations: Strategies for Success and Best Practices from the Council of Europe
In this presentation at the Lean Leader Summit, John Hunter will discuss how to successfully implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) in organizations. The focus will be on gaining business and user buy-in, alleviating fears, and emphasizing the importance of security governance and compliance. Drawing on the AI journey and lessons learned from the Council of Europe (CoE), Hunter will share practical strategies and best practices to pave the way for successful AI integration.
Agile Transformation from an Architecture Perspective
The German automotive industry and thus also Mercedes Benz are undergoing a comprehensive transformation: Our core product the vehicle is subject to a revolutionary change, new players, especially from the Asian region, are aggressively pushing onto the market, development cycles are significantly shorter and the global and local conditions are changing. The digitization of the vehicle, the integration of the car into digital ecosystems as well as the digitization and optimization of internal processes play a decisive role at Mercedes-Benz in responding to these changed market conditions. Business is IT and IT is business-a slogan that sums up the digital transformation at Mercedes very well. Enterprise architecture plays a central role in this transformation. Also the transformation of the organization into an agile, product-oriented organization based on SAFe. In my presentation, I address this agile transformation at Mercedes-Benz from the point of view of enterprise architecture. In particular, I address topics on how we can use architectural approaches to develop the right product or ART cut (keyword: Inverse Conway man oeuvres) and how we integrate a lightweight architecture governance approach into the lean portfolio processes of the SAFe framework. Two key aspects for making the right decisions in the context of this transformation and for implementing them correctly.
Key words:
• The challenges of the German automotive industry that do not stop at Mercedes.
• Digital transformation at Mercedes-Benz
• Product orientation and agile transformation based on SAFe at Mercedes-Benz
• Inverse Conway maneuvers-the key principle for setting up the right agile organization
• Integration of a lean architecture governance approach into the lean portfolio management process of SAFe
How Enterprise Architecture Can Help Drive Agile Transformations
Without a Consistent Data Model, you Shouldn’t do Dashboards but Art
The talk is about the usage of a company-wide, common data model, designed to ensure consistent and accurate reporting across all departments. It shows the standardization of how data is collected, stored, and analyzed, eliminating redundancies and discrepancies that have hindered the decision-making. By leveraging a unified structure, there is improvement in collaboration and enhancements in transparency. With the usage of a common data model, the talk shows how to unlock deeper insights to drive your business forward and it explores how such a framework empowers to make smarter, data-driven decisions and achieve greater organizational alignment.

EAM verbindet & macht verbindlich.

🚀 Why Hashtag#LeanLeadership & Enterprise Architecture Matters Now More Than Ever
In today’s fast-moving digital world, alignment between Business and IT is mission-critical. Yet one ongoing challenge remains: 𝘄𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀.
Over the past two days, I connected with leaders across industries and discussed how we build that common language – one that bridges strategy, operations, and technology.
By integrating Digital Leadership, Enterprise Architecture and Holistic IT, we:
✅ Enable clarity, collaboration, and shared understanding of value.
✅ Translate business goals into executable, impactful IT initiatives supported by structure.
✅ Guide change whilst accelerating innovation.
🧭 No matter your Hashtag#Transformation journey, always start with this foundation: 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲.
Personal highlights from the conference:
– Tania Schmid’s workshop on building Hashtag#resilience for Hashtag#DigitalLeaders
– Nora Legittimo’s insights on the shared cultural shift from “Hidden Champion” to “Open Champion”
– John Hunter’s deep dive into implementing AI through an innovation-first framework
– Dr. Thomas Meintrup’s presentation on defining target architecture based on strategy and building a Delivery Organisation to steer agile transformation.

Everybody who follows me know what comes next 😉 4 key take aways:
1️⃣ 10 reasons why transformation fails: They are all about people (Thank you Julie Short for being so clear and honest)
2️⃣ The Executive Management nominates Enterprise Architecture as one of THE topics for their future development and digital transformation (Thank you Jutta Rößner for your insights)
3️⃣ “Psychological safety is the characteristic of outperforming teams. If you never have time how could your people tell you what’s going on?” (Thank you Veroniek Vermeulen (Silatha) for this passionate presentation)
4️⃣ Why do we still inform SteerCos with PPTs on which we copy the information from the tools our teams use on a day to day basis? If we use THEIR information systems, we do not only gain efficiency, but also align the decision making information with daily work (Thank you Robert Winter for science meets business and see you soon in St. Gallen)
And as 4 insights are not enough for this event, also few little anecdotes 😁 which will stick:
🚪 Nora Legittimo, I will never forget how doors can open 😉 and respect for a role-based Executive Management approach!
🎨 Torsten Kanngießer, I love your presentation title: “Without a consistent data model, you shouldn’t do dashboards, but art”. Couldn’t agree more.
🪦 Dr. Thomas Meintrup, the software killer, as software does not die 😉
🌟 Robert Winter, who tought me a new word: TAFCAPs (The artifact formerly called a project)

Last week, I attended the LeanLeaderSummit 2025 hosted by Lean42 GmbH in Munich and had the chance to speak and listen to inspiring IT leaders about EAM challenges, achievements and steps to take to facilitate cooperation between business and IT!
My personal take aways:
– Holistic Hashtag#businessmodels create value, not single products
– Real Hashtag#digitalisation does not work without a consistent data model
– Hashtag#SAFe framework works if responsibilities are closely aligned with clearly defined business capabilities
– Successful Hashtag#digitalconsulting is about making business understand that you transform it’s story into a technical solution – based on their story
– Hashtag#Psychologicalsafely remains a must have in an organisation – and organisations need to facilitate it every day
– Saying ‚yes‘ to yourself means saying ’no‘ to others
A big shout out and thank you to my wonderful mentor Torsten Kanngießer, Veroniek Vermeulen (Silatha), Torsten Davis, Anita Schüttler 🌱, Galina Plagge, Bea Schnarr, Nora Legittimo, Julie Short, Dr. Thomas Meintrup, Andra Popa, and Werner Zengler.

When Pink Meets Premium at the #LeanLeaderSummit! 🌸
Still buzzing from Munich’s two days Lean CIO & IT Leader Summit – where tech insights collided with life wisdom!
Special thanks to Andra Popa for inviting me and congratulations for her powerful talk on escaping the „juggle jungle.“ Her message hit home in the room: „To say YES to yourself, you sometimes need to say NO to others – not from selfishness, but self-worth.“ 💡
Shoutout to my mini creative director (aka my daughter) – she handpicked from my wardrobe the pink summit outfits (yes, plural!) as a reminder that leadership comes in all colours.💖
Beautiful Synchronicity: Those who remember #ColorFriday from my BMW Group iDEAL program days, know pink was one of the signature colours we wore together on Fridays.
My Premium Insights:
🔸 „Culture eats strategy for breakfast“ (shoutout to the psychology & leadership talks!).
🔸 Mercedes-Benz AG‚ agile transformation talk gave me serious BMW Group deja vu (fascinating to see parallels in strategies in premium mobility!).
🔸 GovTech in action – Der Zoll’s (German customs) AI-powered digital transformation was eye-opening.
🔸 AI needs rock-solid data (no shortcuts!).
🔸 Resilient IT is non-negotiable in today’s landscape (GDPR as a superpower? Yes!).
🔸 Andra’s NO=YES equation (the permission slip we all needed).
Final Applause: Bravo to Karsten Voges and the entire Lean42 GmbH team for orchestrating such an impactful, human-centric event!
Innovation spirit shines brightest when we combine technology with heart!💖

Tania Schmid
Consultant for Digital Transformation & EAM, LIFT, Munich
Last week reminded me that true leadership begins where people feel safe to speak up and be themselves.
At the #LeanLeaderSummit in Munich, conversations around #PsychologicalSafety, #Resilience, and #SelfLeadership made it clear: people-first leadership drives meaningful transformation.
One of my personal highlights was facilitating the #Resilience Workshop for Digital Leaders, which once again showed how valuable it is to consciously create reflective spaces, for ourselves and for our teams.
My key takeaways:
✍ Veroniek Vermeulen (Silatha): Psychological safety isn’t about „being nice“ it’s about feeling safe enough to speak up. Trust and openness spark creativity, productivity, and high-performing teams.
✍ Bea Schnarr: Mindset, values, fun, and genuine connections aren’t just “nice to have”, they create tangible business value.
✍ Nora Legittimo: When IT speaks the language of business, silos dissolve and collaboration thrives.
✍ Dr. Thomas Meintrup: “Business is IT, and IT is business” – the key principle of digital & agile transformation.
🙏 Thank you for the inspiring conversations Veroniek Vermeulen (Silatha), Torsten Kanngießer, Dr. Thomas Meintrup, Miriam Suchet, Dr. Markus Kress, Arun Karthik Ganesan, Dr. Markus Schmotz, Florian Lautenbacher, Stefanie Gooren-Sieber and to the organizers, especially Nane Charrad, Alina Mehlhorn, Marina Poppa, Fabian Kainzinger and to you Karsten Voges 😊
Grateful to be part of this.

Not because you’re selfish—
But because you understand that you are worth protecting.
This was one of the key messages in my Escape the Juggle Jungle speech at the Lead Leadership Summit yesterday.
I spoke about the secret to saying no and the formula for achieving a healthier work-life balance.
Grateful to have had Diana, Adnana, and Marius there with me.
And so glad to meet so many new people and have great conversations!

A truly positive day at the Lean Leader Summit – filled with inspiring conversations with companies facing similar challenges, tool vendors, and consulting partners.
What unites us all is the shared mission of Enterprise Transformation and Enterprise Architecture. And let’s be honest: the real magic happens when we succeed in building bridges between Business and IT and act as translators across silos, mindsets and systems.
It was a well-organized summit with valuable talks and fresh insights from a wide range of industries.
What motivates me most? Knowing that we’re all in this together – navigating the same complexity, striving to bring EAM and transformation initiatives to life with clarity, courage and collaboration.
One of the highlights? It was a real pleasure to finally meet Miriam Suchet in person – after many shared and commented posts, it felt like a long-overdue handshake!
Many thanks to Denise Hohenstein for the inspiring conversations we had throughout the day.
Also, meeting so many people face-to-face whom I had previously only known through digital channels was incredibly rewarding.
Special thanks to Karsten Voges and his team for organizing this great event your effort truly made it a success!

Attending the Lean42 conference on ‚Technology & Innovation – supercharge business outcomes‘ in 2023 turned to be a fantastic experience, where I was able to explore new ideas, interesting topics, and gaining valuable insights. The event facilitated peer-to-peer exchange, reconnecting with old friends and forging new relationships, enriching our network. Thus, this is a must-attend event for professionals seeking impactful and fresh ideas.

With the rich speaker line-up, we saw strategy, governance, transformation, business and IT alignment, AI, and data-centric organizations; As a transverse domain, there is so much to discuss with Enterprise Architecture!
I’m delighted to now be a part of this welcoming EA community that Lean42 has been growing, that I hope to continue to flourish. I’m looking forward to our upcoming opportunities to collaborate.

👏 Bravo for a successful event, and thank you for all the energy you put into it, Lean42 GmbH! ⚡
My main takeaway is a boost in my motivation on interdepartmental collaboration for enterprise transformation, 🤜🤛 and on diversity (in all senses of the word) as an amplifier 📣 for qualitative programs success.

The selection of topics for the talks was excellent. I particularly enjoyed:
Dr. Thomas Meintrup’s presentation on „Agile Transformation from an Architecture Perspective“
Julie Short’s talk on „Enterprise Architecture: The People Have Spoken.“
Tania Schmid’s workshop on resilience.
It’s always inspiring to take away new ideas for my own work while also sharing my own experiences with others.
A big thank you to the Lean42 GmbH team for the fantastic organization and to Karsten Voges, who once again did an outstanding job as eloquent conference host.
